This series of narrative still lifes (oil paintings) started up as a series of charcoal drawings. I worked for about 3 years on the series of charcoals that I liked to think of as portraits of people but without the people. They were table settings that I set up or had naturally occurred in my studio or apartment. The drawings were large (29 x 41 inches). I would imagine a scene where people had been sitting and allowed for the viewer to create a little story about what was happening in the scene (or what had happened). At one point I decided that maybe they could become paintings (I had not initially planned on that). I liked the paintings very much and decided to continue with the series. This one is called, "Tranquility in the Afternoon". The paintings in this series are all 4 x 5 feet.
