Every artist goes through long periods of solitude where they learn about themselves, hone their craft and earn their voice. After college I started to read a lot, mostly novels. It was an enlightening experience. My maternal grandfather was born in Colombia and would tell all his grandkids stories from his past. I remember talk of banana plantations and long conversations he had with his uncle who had long ago passed away. And flowers which seemed to appear out of nowhere and fall everywhere. The novels of García Márquez were a lot like my grandfather’s talks. Márquez sparked my imagination with his brilliant and magical narrative. I made this drawing because I liked the book so much and never wanted to forget it. A friend had given me the beautiful bottle of tequila and I had found these wonderful shot glasses. For me the little details in the glass make the whole drawing more interesting.
