Like many other artists, I have always found refracted images to be very appealing. I set up a still life with an Alvar and Aina Aalto glass filled with water. I placed a steak knife in it and made a color pencil drawing. The glass has multiple ridges in it so the refractions are multiplied. I looked at it a long time before drawing. The oil painting (from which this print is made) is 4.5 x 6 feet tall. I made the painting, then after the paint dried I took off all the canvases and transposed them, making a refracted painting of a refracted image.
