For my birthday one year I received a beautiful Rosenthal China plate designed by Roy Lichtenstein. It was the kind of beautiful object that you could stare at for an hour. I had begun painting the large transposition series of works at that time when I took the plate out one day. I decided to put it into a 6 x 6 foot painting. I was thinking about what food you would serve on a dish like that. I tried a couple of things then one day I was out walking and passed by a Dunkin Donuts. I walked in and saw the jelly donuts. My problem was solved. Jelly Donut on a Lichtenstein Plate took about 2 weeks to paint. It took about the same amount of time to prepare the canvases and armature, so about a month in all. Years later I was moving my studio and dropped the plate on the street shattering it into a hundred pieces.
